Do something good today

Humans are a social species. Yes, there are a few of us who prefer the solitary existence, and for centuries, people have chosen this route to explore their spirituality. But to make progress in more practical matters, collaboration and teamwork can be much more effective.

If you’ve ever watched the BBC’s DIY SOS, you’ll know what we mean. Teams of tradesmen volunteer their time, and contribute building materials, to transform the lives of families in desperate situations.

Often, the trades fall out – the plasterer gets in the way of the plumber – and there’s a lot of banter, but it’s all good-natured, and the results are fantastic. What’s really fascinating is that the tradesmen – the burly builders and digger operators – get so much out of the experience. They’re giving, but they’re getting too.

We’re not suggesting that joining our network is the same as the DIY SOS experience, but there are similarities. Like the TV show, our aim is to improve lives. The TV show has experts with a range of skills, so have we.  If the TV show’s project looks like running out of manpower, a call for help goes out, and the community responds.  Where’s the similarity there? That’s easy – we’re running our own drive to get more people involved with our work.

We focus on the mental healthcare sector and the transformative power of good design. Our members come from all sectors and we’re always looking for input. Whether your contribution is based on your personal experience as a service user or on the more commercial ambitions of a manufacturing business, we don’t mind. If you’re interested in our work, we’ll be interested in you.

As a member of our network, you have an opportunity to make a difference to the quality of life and recovery of those suffering from mental ill-health. We’re determined to promote best practice, share evidence and raise awareness of the importance of good design, but our organisation can only do so much. By joining us, and contributing your experience, time or enthusiasm, you will help us to do so much more.

This isn’t an SOS for ourselves – mental health is everyone’s concern. Let’s get together to do what we can. Join us.
