Grainge Architects

Through thoughtful, evidence-led and sustainable design, Grainge Architects creates mental healthcare environments that are uplifting, therapeutic and responsive to individual needs. Our approach prioritises safety, adaptability and personal choice, sensory-informed design, and meaningful access to nature and outdoor space. We believe the built environment is not simply a backdrop to treatment, but a powerful contributor to recovery, wellbeing and better outcomes for patients, families and staff.

Our award-winning new-build projects combine design excellence with a deep understanding of the complex clinical, operational and safety requirements of mental healthcare. We also have considerable expertise in adapting and repurposing existing buildings, working creatively within estate constraints to create therapeutic settings that meet demanding healthcare standards while enhancing dignity, inclusivity and clinical outcomes.

We work across the full project lifecycle, from strategic estates masterplanning, feasibility studies and concept design through to construction and completion. Collaboration is central to Grainge Architects’ approach: we work closely with clinicians, estates teams and experts by experience, embedding co-production throughout the design process so that every project is shaped by operational priorities, service needs and lived experience.
