Project outcome

Working closely with Swanton Care and Community Ltd, ACA produced an innovative proposal for the refurbishment and extension of Eden View, an existing brain injury clinic located in Bottisham, Cambridge. The project is running in response to a national shortage of high-end care services, with an aim to reduce the amount of ‘’bed blocking’’ in acute hospitals. ACA gained approval for the development in late 2016.

The Design

The proposal looks to refurbish and extend the existing building. A 2-storey extension provides 10 additional beds. A ground floor and first floor extension equally provide additional bedrooms, lounge and services accommodation.

The site sits nearby a conservation area with several 16th and 17th Century buildings, the local vernacular is typical of a traditional rural setting. The proposed design ensures that the local character is respected and enhanced.

The landscape design enhances the boundaries of the development to help the care home sit comfortably into the existing landscape. A network of communal garden areas encourages a sensory and enjoyable experience for the residents, staff and visitors. A variety of plant species including shrubs, ornamental grasses and herbaceous vegetation around the boundaries and within the garden areas add to the diversity and variation of the landscape.
